Roland White plays guitar and mandolin in a contemporary bluegrass style. He has been playing a long time, since the 1950s, and known and played with the best bluegrass musicians of all time. He is the oldest child in a musically talented family. He decided at the age of 8 that he wanted to be a musician, and was encouraged by his parents, and he organized sessions with his brothers and sister almost every night. They learned the songs they heard their father and uncles play. He played the guitar first, but soon took up the mandolin.
