The Spirituál kvintet is a Czech musical group founded in fall of 1960. Spirituál Kvintet is told to be the first folk band in former Czechoslovakia. Their first public appearance took place at International Jazz Festival in Karlovy Vary in 1962. They perform all kinds of songs - from Czech folk songs to American spirituals and Barok music. They were highly popular among Czech people in the times of communism in Czech Republic for their "songs of hope", which mostly were old american gospel songs translated into Czech, but some of them also sung in English.
